Weekend 1 of the Great Remodel (3/6-8)

Our first weekend was a bit rushed and slightly unproductive. In reality we just realized that our naive timeline and "remodeling schedule" was a bit ambitious. We had expected to figure that out- but not necessarily on the very first weekend! :)

Our main project was removing the popcorn ceiling. After a lengthy trip to Lowe's inspecting tools and staring at drywall supplies in confusion- we began work on Friday afternoon after work.

One part fabric softener, two parts water; a mister; large drywall scraper spatula knife things, resirator masks, googles, and tons of nasty dust later...


...and the popcorn was removed from the back bedrooms, closets, hallway and bathroom. Whew! just the other 65% of the house to go!


Some highly talented, and slightly familiar handymen showed up on Saturday, along with a lovely cook/errand lady! My stepdad Steve, his friend "Crash", and my cool little bro Daniel all worked on removing baseboards, installing two doors, taking out floor heaters, and etc... As a special surprise they got to replace two large sections of flooring as well. :) We all enjoyed some delish pizza made by my mom- the chef of the day. She and I, and the guys also made many many many trips to various hardware stores throughout the day...
