vaca day #2- the foodie speaks...

It's interesting how rachel will blog about our experiences and even point out the decor and layout of our little place, while noting the subtle spanish influences, but I am more apt to blog about what I enjoy the most...food and adventures.
After arriving to our bungalow well after the single digits of the morning, we slept in to a time reminicient of college days nearing noon. With no groceries and hungry appitites to meet us, we decided to trek the main drag to see what eating establishments could meet our needs. After spotting several shady, yet tempting dives, we decided on "Ricky T's." We don't know Ricky, nor do we really care as long as he has clean silverware and a delicious brunch. Ricky T's proved to be an unexpected great first meal on Treasure Island. Rachel attempted to eat a hearty veggie omelet w/toast and hash browns, (she only vanquished half) while I went for the less healthy "southern special" incuding biscuits and gravy, chipped beef over toast, and a delicious rendition of corn beef hash. Both meals were excellent as we enjoyed them on the deck in the perfect fall Florida weather near 70 w/ no humidity.













(r) after breakfast we explored the areas and islands surrounding us- St. John's Pass, Madeira Beach, and Reddington Beach. We made a new friend, the true highway to hell :), and saw our first drawbridge.



(j) the afternoon consisted of digging our feet into the sand and enjoying the almost-perfect beach conditions. The nearest beach spot is about 50 yards away and right next to a classic beach bar/restaurant called "Caddy's." Our policy this week is to eat when we're hungry, which seems obvious, but our sometimes irregular schedules usually dictate when we eat. So, when we got hungry we decided to try out Caddy's food selections. Rachel orderd the special of the day, fresh mahi-mahi sandwhich with sweet potato fries while I dug into some huge blackened shrimp also with sweet potato fries and slaw. Both meals were absolutely yummy and solidified Caddy's as one of our local fav's, especially with the live music with two middle aged men singing popular beach tunes. The icing on the cake was the picture perfect sunset which set across the ocean. Great meal and perfect setting. We will definitely be back.
